So, in an effort to get myself back into the habit of blogging I have decided to participate in The 30 Days of Truth which I found over at a blog called Angel Believes
Everyday for 30 days I have to write about what is listed for that day. I hope that it will help you get to know me better and perhaps help me get to know myself better.
Day One - Something You Hate About Yourself
My eyes. Yes, I hate the windows to my soul. They're small and squinty and when I smile they get even squinty-er. If I asked my fiance right now what color my eyes were he probably wouldn't even know because it's hard to see since they're so small.
Okay, I was wrong, I just asked and he looked at me like I was crazy and said brown. Which, I guess is sort of right. They are really more hazel, brownish-green with flecks of gold. They'd probably be really pretty if they weren't so small and squinty.
A lot of people say that my daughter has my eye shape with Paul's color. But, I don't see how that could be true because Allison has beautiful eyes. They are big and round and simply gorgeous. Maybe I am blinded by my love for her so I can't see any flaws. Or maybe, I am blinded to my own unique beauty so I can't see any good in something I perceive as a flaw. Hmm... I will have to think about that!

The Devil in Your Eyes
You look like an angel
Walk like an angel
Talk like an angel
But I got wise...
You're the devil in disguise (yes, I did duct tape her bib on)
Oh yes you are (yes, she does spit her food out)
The devil in disguise (eating toilet paper... oh good)
You're the devil in disguise (there's nothing like dog water...)
Oh yes you are (unless it's toilet water!)
The devil in disguise (she enjoys gnawing on dvd cases)
Oh yes you are
The devil in disguise

How do you balance?
According to the FlyLady website, last week was Anti-Procastination Week. Updating this blog was on my list of things to do but of course I put it off until the last minute. Then my hard drive crashed and suddenly I was out of time! Lesson Learned: Don't put things off until the last minute because the unexpected my happen and "the last minute" may appear before you were expecting it.
Luckily, Paul is a computer tech guy and he was able to implement a temporary fix. So here I am.
If I'm honest, this blog isn't the only thing I've been neglecting lately. I'm really struggling with finding the right balance for my time and my life. I work eight hours, five days a week. When I get home from work I have about three hours to spend with my daughter before she goes to bed. Then I get a few hours to either clean house or do something I enjoy. Which option do you think I've been choosing? Yup. My house is in ruins.
So, I'm trying this Flylady thing - learning how to get my home out of CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) I'm still stuck on the first baby step, shining my kitchen sink. But the concept is simple and I think it will work for me. Working few minutes a day to get my house clean doesn't seem so hard. If you haven't heard of FlyLady you should really check her out! http://www.flylady.net
I'm trying to implement that principle into other aspects of my life. If I can spend a few minutes shining my sink then surely I can spare a few minutes to update my blog. After all, blogging is something I enjoy when I don't let myself worry about other people's opinions.
I will keep you updated on how my flying lessons are going! Have you shined your kitchen sink today? I have! :)

Pregnant? TTC? Need Parenting Advice? Check out...
When I was pregnant all I wanted to do was talk about my pregnancy. Unfortunately, most of my friends are light years away from even thinking about having kids and my mom's advice all came from 1982. I love ya mom but... your memory ain't what it used to be!
So, I found myself lacking the support I needed. What do I do whenever I find that I'm lacking something? Go online, of course! I found several message boards and forums where I could get support and advice from other preggos and I made some good friends too!
I recently had the opportunity to review a forum called Full Time Moms and I have to say, "I wish I'd found this forum when I was pregnant!" But, I'm truly glad that I found it now.
I created an account in order to get the full forum experience. It was easy (and free) to sign up and I immediately started lurking and got lost reading different posts. When I ventured back to the "Welcome Center" board I was surprised to find that there was a post welcoming me along with several friendly replies! I really was touched and I'm looking forward to learning more about the ladies on this forum!
What is Full Time Moms?
Full Time Moms is a forum for women to discuss fertility, pregnancy, adoption and parenting. But that's not all! They also have boards for home organization, recipes, hobbies, beauty and more! They even have a board for woman who play The Sims! ohmygoodness... I'm addicted to the game all over againHow do I Join?
Just head on over to http://www.fulltimemomsforum.com and click on register under the top bar. Here's a direct link :) It's free to join and post. If you like the experience you can subscribe for extra perks and access to a special forum.I hope to see you there!
Disclaimer: I was provided the opportunity to write this post for Full Time Moms in exchange for an ad to write this review. However, I was not required to write a positive review or write the review at all simply because they offered me an ad. All the above information is completely my opinion and was not at all influenced in any way.

I want to be a bounty hunter!
I'm currently working my way through the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich a second time. It's much harder to do now that I have a baby but it's a fun way to get some me time :)
Stephanie Plum was a typical 30 year old from Jersey until she lost her job "selling panties" for a lingerie store and fell into a job as an Apprehension Agent for her cousin Vinnie's bond agency. The books follow Stephanie as she tracks down FTA's for the bond agency, often getting shot at and losing cars in the process.
I'm on book four which is aptly titled Four to Score. Here's an excerpt from the opening:
The books are hilarious and I often find myself laughing so hard that I shoot milk out of my nose. They also give me an irresistible and inexplicable urge to take up the bounty hunter lifestyle myself.
I can see it now...
I am dressed head to toe in black, stalking through someone's yard. I have a gun in my waistband (not that I'd use it - like Stephanie, I probably wouldn't even have it loaded) and hand cuffs in my pocket. I knock on the door and announce myself as an Apprehension Agent, demanding that the FTA open up! The wanted man sneaks out the back door and takes for the hills, not that I care, I like the chase (hah!). I run after him and promptly trip over my own feet into a pile of dog poop.
...yeah so maybe not.
I guess that's why I love reading so much, I get to live vicariously through people who are more talented and exciting than myself.

"Living in Trenton in July is like living inside a big pizza oven. Hot, airless, aromatic.
Because I didn't want to miss any of the summer experience I had the sunroof open on my Honda CRX. My brown hair was pulled up into a wind-snarled, curls-gone-to-frizz ponytail. The sun baked the top of my head, and sweat trickled under my black spandex sports bra. I was wearing matching spandex shorts and a sleeveless oversized Trenton Thunders baseball jersey. It was an excellent outfit except it gave me no place to stick my .38. Which meant I was going to have to borrow a gun to shoot my cousin Vinnie..."

Lions and Tigers and Bears... Oh my!
We spent the last four days in Illinois visiting Paul's family. His sister, brother and sister-in-law live in Arizona and we're in Illinois for a couple of weeks so we went out to see them.
Let me tell you, traveling four hours in a car with a newborn is a piece of cake. Traveling four hours in a car with a 9 month old is pure horror. When Allison was little, she just slept the whole time. Sure, we had to stop a couple times so I could nurse her but then she would go promptly back to sleep. Now that she's older, we can't trick her into sleeping and she doesn't want to spend hours sitting in a car seat. Not that I blame her. We had to stop several times just to let the little one out to "stretch her legs". So, a four hour journey turned into 6 hours of trying to entertain an active baby who doesn't understand "we'll be there soon!".
But, eventually we got there and it was good to see Paul's family again. Paul's brother, Steve and sister-in-law, Rosy have a 7 year old son named Brandon and 2 year twins named Connor and Shannon. Oh boy, and I thought I had it rough! They had to travel four hours in a plane with that brood!
But, aren't they cute? It was beyond difficult getting them all to sit still long enough... we didn't even bother trying to get them all to smile at once. Okay, I lied. We sang, we danced, we took about twenty million pictures in an attempt to get one shot of them all at least looking at the camera. The picture above is the best shot we took. I'm learning that when it comes to kids sometimes you just have to take what you can get!
Steve and Rosy left for Arizona with the twins on Sunday but Paul's sister Tina stayed behind with Brandon (the 7 year old) So, on Monday we all loaded up and went to Brookfield Zoo. Yes, I took a 9 month old to the zoo. It was so much fun. :)
Allison's favorite animals were the Toucan and the fish. The toucan sat very close to the fence of his enclosure and he was so colorful, Allison just couldn't take her eyes off him! When it came time to leave she waved and said Bye-bye Birdie. Okay, it was more like "bye bye byeeeeeee" but you know she meant to say birdie.
The fish tanks were really amazing because the glass reaches all the way to the floor and Allie could stand there with her hands on the glass and just watch the colorful fish swim by. She was truly fascinated and it kinda made me feel like a bad mom for not having a fish tank in the house, but only a little bit. I won't be surprised if she wants a goldfish when she's older though.
Allison slept through the monkey exhibit and the giraffes but all in all I think it was a great experience for her. I know in a few years she'll be telling me she's never been to the zoo but it's okay, I don't mind going back :)

Crawling!!
Well... Allison has been mobile for awhile now, rolling from place to place. She started doing the army crawl about a week ago and last night she officially did the hands and knees type of crawling. I have a feeling we're in big trouble now! I better go lock up all valuables and cords while my little traveler is napping but I wanted to post our crawling video :)

Summer Fun in the Sun (with liberal amounts of sunscreen, of course!)
We took Allison to the pool for the first time on my birthday and it was a blast! We ventured into the water after coating Allison in 3 layers of sunscreen and carefully securing a sunhat on top of her head. Paranoid first time Momma? You bet!
Allison was a little unsure about everything when we first sat down with her in the shallow end of the pool. She has a wading pool at home but the giant pool full of screaming, splashing kids was a whole new adventure for her. She sat there and looked around for a few minutes before she turned and climbed into my lap.
So, we went and hung out in the shade for awhile and enjoyed watching all the people go by. I wasn't able to find my camera for our adventure so I took the camcorder instead. I was disappointed with the quality and we didn't get any shots of Allison in the water (we did get some video though!) I was glad we had something with us to record Allie's first time at the pool. She was sooo cute in her little swim suit! :)
Look at those thighs! Don't you just want to nibble them? I love her little rolls!
The last picture is of Allie giving me a kiss. She's such a sweetheart and will give me one whenever I ask and often when I don't. It makes me laugh every time though because her version of a kiss involves opening her mouth as wide as it will go and "eating" my lips. What a doodle!
We went back to the water for a second time after our photo session and Allison did so much better. She laughed and splashed in between wrestling to get her hat off. I think she's going to be a swimmer like her Momma. :)
I'm glad I was able to have my birthday off from work so I could spend it with my little family. It's strange to think how much has changed so quickly. Last year I was pregnant on my birthday but I still spent it by going to a karaoke bar with my friends and staying out way too late. I had a blast even though I wasn't drinking with the rest of them. The year before last my girl friends and I took a trip to Vegas for my birthday and it was a fun experience full of single girl hilarity.
This year however was by far my best birthday yet. My little lady makes every day special. Even when she's teething and grumpy. Okay... yeah, I sometimes wish I could run away to Vegas on the grumpy days but... you know I'd always come back ;)

Mom Wars (tales of labor): An Apology
A long,
long, long
time ago in a
city not so far away...
...a young woman named Sue was pregnant with her first baby (that's me!). The baby was due on June 28; but hot, humid June turned into sweltering, humid July and Sue was still pregnant (I like to do things on my own time). She was beginning to feel like she would be pregnant forever when she finally started having contractions on the evening of June 12 - two weeks after her due date!
The contractions were so light that Sue decided to wait at home for awhile before going to the hospital. She went to bed with the hope that she could get some sleep before the real work began. She slept for about an hour but then woke up to finding water gushing everywhere - her water had broken! Suddenly Sue was overcome with waves of pain that never seemed to end. She woke up her husband and told him that they had to leave right away!
Sue labored at the hospital through the night and all through the next day without much progress. She had terrible back pain but no one seemed too concerned that the medicine she'd requested wasn't helping. "It's labor," they told her, "it's not supposed to be easy"
Finally, a new doctor started his shift on the maternity ward. It was 9:00 pm on July 13, almost 24 hours since Sue's water had broken and she was still only dilated a few centimeters. The doctor took one look at her and said "we've got to get that baby out of there!"
Sue felt immediate relief as the doctor administered a spinal block. At that point she didn't care what was happening as long as the pain was over and the baby would be okay.
So, at 9:42 pm on July 13, I was pulled from my mother's womb. As my mom likes to tell it, I was so stubborn that there was no other way I was going to come out. In truth, I was turned facing forward (sunny-side up) and I couldn't push past my mom's pelvic bone. But, if she want's to blame that on my stubbornness she certainly has the right!
Today, on my 28th birthday, I would like to issue a formal apology to my mom for her pain and suffering. I'm sorry Mom! I couldn't fully appreciate the pain my mom went through until I had my own baby. Thanks for sticking it out Mom! I mean, I know at that point you didn't have much of a choice, but I appreciate it nonetheless :)
This seems to be the only picture I have of me as a little tyke. I'll have to rectify that problem soon!
Anyway, I took today off work to spend with my little family and tonight we're going to dinner with my parents and brother. Should be fun. Do you think I should give my mom a card? ;)

Packing Things Away
We spent our day off today by packing some of Allison's "baby" things away. We sent the baby tub, the Bumbo seat, the bouncy seat and the swing to the attic. I'd be a lair if I said it didn't make me a little said. Sure, she never uses these things anymore and it's nice to have some extra space. But it's a strong reminder that my little girl is growing up.
She turned 8 months old today and I know it's cliche, but where has the time gone? Now, she would rather play in boxes than bat at the toys hanging over her bouncy seat. She would rather roll across the floor then swing back in forth in her infant swing. She's so much fun now, she's developing her own little personality and proofing to be just as stubborn as her Momma! It's fun to watch but I do miss the days when she would just let me rock her in my arms. *sigh*
In other news, Allison's first 4th of July was basically a bust. We went downtown around 6 to spend time with family. We weren't sure if Allie would make it to dusk to see the fireworks but we were going to give it a try. Paul and I left her with my mom so we could check out some of the vendors and buy a funnel cake. We crossed the river to see what was on the other side (why else? lol) Then, we were half way across the bridge headed back to the family when we heard screaming. I looked up and a wall of water was headed towards us. I'm not going to lie, my first reaction was to turn around and run. But, my second reaction was to get to my baby and that one won out. We were pretty much soaked the second the rain hit us. We got back to my family and found them huddled under a couple umbrellas. Allison was tucked safely in the middle and was the only one to stay dry!
We waited for the rain to slow before we transferred Allie to her stroller and made a run for it. I'm sure we were a funny picture, Paul pushing the stroller while I struggled to keep an umbrella in front of Allison. I guess we thought she would melt if she got wet.
This is a terrible picture. We were wet and very cold but I convinced Paul we needed a picture. I propped the camera on a shelf and set it to take the picture in 10 seconds then I ran for it. lol Allison was wearing a super cute red, white and blue dress but I guess all you get to see is her diaper :p
I hope you all had a great weekend!

Household Magic: When Life Hands You Lemons...
...Get Cleaning!
Saturday is my cleaning day. I will pick up and tidy during the week but for the most part I like to spend my time with Allison when the work day is done and I'm tired by the time she goes to bed. So, I do the deep cleaning stuff on Saturday which leaves Sunday as a rest day before the work week starts again.
One of my favorite cleaning tools is a lemon or lemon juice. Lemons were used to clean for hundreds of years before commercial products came along with their "fresh lemon scent". There are so many ways you can use a lemon to clean your house without using toxic ingredients.
Juicing a Lemon without a Juicer
There are a variety of ways that you can use lemons for cleaning. Here is a list of how I use it to freshen and clean my house.
Do you use lemons for reasons other than lemonaid?e I'd love to hear more suggestions!

Juicing a Lemon without a Juicer
- Make sure the lemon is room temperature before you start. You can do this by simply taking it out of the refrigerator until it warms up or you can stick it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
- Use the palm of your hand to roll the lemon on your counter top - this will help you get more juice
- Use a bowl or tupperware to collect the juice you can use a strainer over the bowl to collect the seeds
- Cut the lemon in half and squeeze
- Use the back of a spoon to press inside the lemon and get more juice
- Squeeze the other half of the lemon or wrap it up and stick it in the fridge to use another time
There are a variety of ways that you can use lemons for cleaning. Here is a list of how I use it to freshen and clean my house.
- Air Freshener (home made Febreeze!)
- Add equal parts lemon juice and water to a spray bottle. Set the nozzle to "mist" and spray in the air of your home. The acid in the lemon juice will kill bacteria in the air and the lemon scent will leave your home smelling fresh.
- General Cleaner
- Use your spray bottle with equal parts water and lemon juice to clean kitchen and bathroom counters and sinks. It can also be used on walls (be sure to do a spot test first) and mirrors.
- Degreaser
- Straight lemon juice can work wonders on the grease on your stove or wherever it may be
- Bleach Alternative
- Add a half cup of lemon juice to your laundry during the rinse cycle for light bleaching purposes.
- For tough stains, add lemon juice directly to the stain and lay it in the sun to dry then wash as normal
- Lime Scale Remover
- Use a slice of lemon directly on your faucets or shower head to remove lime scale build up.
- You can also use it mixed with water to clean up lime scale buildup on your shower walls and shower curtain.
- Microwave
- Heat lemon slices and a bowl of water in the microwave for about 30 seconds then wipe the microwave down. Stains should come off easier and the lemon will help remove any odor. For tough stains, apply lemon juice directly to the problem area and then microwave as described above.
- Furniture Polish
- Mix one part lemon juice with two parts cooking oil to polish furniture. Spot test first.
- Toilet Bowl Cleaner
- For a tough toilet job mix 1/2 cup borax with a cup of lemon juice.
Do you use lemons for reasons other than lemonaid?e I'd love to hear more suggestions!

Last Weeks Truths and Lies
1. I once got 4 speeding tickets in the span of 1 week
TRUE - I was 17 and foolish... 3 of them were on the same road and when my dad asked how that was possible I told him "I wouldn't have been speeding if they would just raise the speed limit!"
2. In high school I was lead singer for a garage band called "Suitor Number 3"
FALSE - I can't sing. I wish I could but I just can't. If I was lead singer for a band, it would have to be some sort of joke!
3. I used to make a living by selling "romantic massage tools"
TRUE - I was a consultant for Passion Parties for about a year after my boyfriend at the time talked me in to it. I was good at direct selling but after awhile I got tired about talking about such things. lol
2 Truths and a Lie
1. I once hooked my brother on a fish hook
2. I hate milk but I still drank it when I was pregnant
3. I'm allergic to chocolate

New Camera
First of all, if you're looking for "Traveling Tuesday" please head over to my new blog - Prairie Stories. All children's book reviews will be housed there from now on. This week I'm walking about the book We're Sailing to Galapagos!
I'm currently using a little Sony digital camera (I'm sorry I don't know the specs) I believe it is 7.2 megapixals which was pretty good... 3 years ago.
I'm learning not to use the flash when I have enough natural light and I'm starting to get better photos from it. However, it doesn't "read" a lot of natural light so images are blurred if there is not enough. Of course when I use the flash I get that flat, "flash" look which nobody likes.
So, I'm in the market for a new camera. As you can tell from my post, I don't know much about cameras. I have heard that I should get something with an external flash but that's about all I know to look for.
I'm looking for recommendations! What do you use? What do you wish you could use? What would you suggest to a person like me? I'm not a professional (obviously!) but I want to take quality photos of my family. I'm a scrapbooker so quality photos are important to me! I like experimenting and doing "photo shoots" with my daughter but I also love being able to capture candid moments!
Okay... shoot! What would you buy if you were me? :)

Earwigs, Spiders and Ticks. Oh My!
This year our house seems to be infested with nasty little brown bugs called Earwigs. They look like this:
Creeps me out just to look at the picture! I'm sorry for doing that to you but I need someone to understand how gross these things are! I'm not usually too squeamish about bugs but earwigs seriously gross me out and they are everywhere this year! I didn't even know what the nasty things were called when I first found one on my shower curtain about a month ago but they have certainly made themselves at home since then.
Earwigs can grow to be over an inch long but they are flat and can hide in the smallest spaces. They like warm, dark and moist spaces. This afternoon when I moved the dog dish three earwigs ran out at me. Last week I opened my laptop to find one taking a nice, warm nap on my keyboard. But the last straw was Saturday when I opened the washer to put a load of laundry in and a herd of earwigs came scurrying out like miniature cockroaches. Yes, I said a herd. What do you call a dozen or more bugs moving in a group?
I don't usually like using chemicals around the house but I went out and bought the biggest thing of bug killer I could find - it seriously looks like one of those things the professional exterminators use, with a nozzle and everything. I sprayed it all over the outside foundation and around the inside foundation in the basement. I hope that will help the problem.
The spray should help with the brown spiders I've been seeing too. I know spiders are good for killing bugs but these guys look a lot like Brown Recluse Spiders which are extremely poisonous and I'm not going to risk any of us getting bit. I was going to show a picture of a brown recluse but isn't one bug picture bad enough? I Googled them and it made my skin crawl so I'll spare you the horror this time.
What about the ticks you ask? Well, I warn you, the following story is not for the faint of heart. Read at your own risk.
Saturday morning I went to the kitchen to make some cereal for Allison. On the way, I felt an itch on my cheek and when I scratched it I realized there was something crunchy there. I thought, with embarrassment that it was some misplaced Alfredo sauce from the pasta I'd had the night before (I have a talent for getting food in odd places when I eat). I scratched my cheek again in an attempt to scrap the "sauce" off but it was stuck. So, I pulled it off and looked down to see what it was. In between my thumb and forefinger was a little, squirmy tick.
"Ahhhhhhh!" I screamed and threw it across the kitchen. From the next room, Paul screamed in reply and came running to see what was wrong.
"A freaking tick! (except, I didn't say freaking) There was a tick. On. My. Face. I threw it." I explained as I anxiously ran my fingers over my face and through my hair. Paul didn't say anything as he started scanning the floor for the tick. He quickly found it and doing the manly thing, he used a wad of paper towels to pick the tick up so he could flush it down the toilet.
We found another one on Bella (the dog) on Sunday - in her ear to be precise. I'll spare you the details but let's just say it had obviously been there awhile. What do you do for ticks? We have given Bella flea and tick treatment every three months like the directions say. Although they also say it can be used once a month if the problem is really bad. So, Bella got an extra treatment on Sunday and will probably get more a month from now.
Why are the bugs so bad this year? What do you do to keep them from invading your home? HELP!

These are a Few of my Favorite Things...
I've been feeling a bit down all day today and I don't really know why. So, I decided to make a list of things I love in an attempt to lift my spirits.
These are a Few of my Favorite Things...

My daughter, Allison. Beautiful, funny, charming and full of wonder about the world around her.

My fiance Paul. He's actually really getting on my nerves at the moment but I always love him. And I love watching him interact with our daughter!
My dog, Bella. She's a vampire dog who likes to lick your flesh off, she can teleport to places outside her fenced in yard and she's pretty much Allison's favorite person.
Other things on my list:

Other things on my list:
- My parents because I'm just beginning to learn how hard it was to raise me ;)
- My boss because she is also my friend which, actually can be hard sometimes but it's nice to have support at work.
- Diet Mt Dew. Zero Calories, same great taste and lots of caffeine to get me through my day.
- My blogger friends and readers because you make me smile, make me think and "listen" to me whine.
